Wastewater mining & primary treatment solutions

Wastewater Mining Systems

H2O Innovation WaterHub® designs wastewater mining systems that extract wastewater from existing sewer systems for decentralized reclamation and reuse. These systems work in concert with municipal conveyance infrastructure and often provide benefits to the existing sewer network by relieving capacity constraints and minimizing the occurrence of down-stream combined sewer overflows. Mining systems are typically below grade and can integrate seamlessly into any project landscape or hardscape.

Biological Treatment solutions

H2O Innovation WaterHub® utilizes a variety of biological treatment technologies depending on wastewater characteristics and project specific goals. Often reactors are combined in the process design with complementary biological or ecological reactors to increase overall system efficiency and resiliency. A few of these include:

Moving-Bed Bioreactors (MBBR)

Moving-Bed Bioreactors (MBBRs) utilize attached growth media as a substrate for the formation of treatment biofilms. This media is circulated in aerated treatment reactors ensuring excellent oxygen and substrate transfer to the biomass. Due to the high surface area and surface charge of the media and the robust microbiological communities, MBBRs are ideally suited for high-strength, industrial wastewater applications. In existing wastewater plants, the addition of moving media can expand treatment capacity and improve effluent quality without incurring additional footprint.

Ecological Treatment solutions

Inspired by nature, H2O Innovation WaterHub® specializes in the application of ecological treatment technologies. Mimicking what nature has done for billions of years helps us improve water quality, lower system energy demands, and create wastewater treatment solutions that can serve as a centerpiece of our communities.

Hydroponic Reactors

Hydroponic reactors utilize plant racks suspended over aerated wastewater tanks to provide substrate for treatment microorganisms. H2O Innovation WaterHub® has developed a palette of plant species that naturally grow long roots in this wastewater environment. The roots provide surface area and supplemental oxygen for treatment biofilms. Our research has found that plant roots provide more surface area per cubic meter than synthetic media typically found in MBBRs.

Polishing & disinfection systems

Polishing and disinfection steps are required to protect human health and critical process equipment from potential pathogens and elevated levels of minerals in the reclaimed water. H2O Innovation WaterHub® employs water polishing and disinfection systems that are designed to meet client end use water quality demands.

Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection Systems

Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection Systems Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection utilizes high frequency light in the UV-C spectrum to denature the DNA of potential pathogens. Properly designed UV systems kill 99.99% of bacteria and viruses in reclaimed water. H2O Innovation WaterHub® typically uses UV as a primary disinfection method coupled with chlorine to provide a disinfection residual for reuse storage and distribution systems. Dual disinfection with online instrumentation for turbidity, UV dose, and chlorine residual assures reclaimed water is always safe for reuse.
